يقوم القسم بإجراء البحوث التطبيقية التى تخدم الإنتاج الزراعي وتدرس المشاكل المتعلقة بالبيئة وتحاول إيجاد الحلول المناسبة لها. كما يقدم القسم متمثل فى أساتذة القسم الإستشارات الوراثية فى تخصصات الوراثة المختلفة بما يخدم قطاعات الإنتاج .
كما اشترك أعضاء هيئة التدريس بالقسم بأبحاثهم فى العديد من المؤتمرات المحلية والإقليمية والدولية التى تعالج قضايا مرتبطة بالإنتاج وبخدمة البيئة وفيما يلي بعض من هذه الأبحاث :
